COMPARE (FINAL)
Despite the fact that Granddaddy Cain and Pa Sexton are from different stories, the author Toni Cade Bambara and Jesse Stuart unknowingly made them similar in their views, descriptions, and character development.
To start off, Granddaddy Cain is a farmer as well as living off his own produce and livestock. In the story, it doesn't tell the readers much, the Cain family probably farm for themselves and don't sale to companies or stores, in other words they are self-reliant. Granddaddy Cain is also describe in physical features like, his feet were motors, and his hands as big as trays. Perhaps comparing him to the train he worked on. In his personality, the story gives us a hint of demeanor that Cain acts like a king, a tall quiet manner. But when he is needed, like when Granny wanted those men (Smilin' and Camera) off their yard, he asked for their camera and broke it in his hands. Their reaction was shocked and angered by the fact Granddaddy Cain broke their camera.
On the other hand, Pa Sexton is a farmer as well. Twelve kids of his own with his wife, Ma Sexton. Only one of his children go to school, this is what eventually causes the story's conflict and Pa's character development. Having a generation gap between his and his children he sees the world world differently. Pa Sexton is described by his son, Dave, in comparison of a old gnarled tree. His hands big and gnarled, and he sticks out like a dead leaf on a tree full of green lush leaves. Because Pa's family helps and works on the farm they are self-reliant. Pa takes care of his own self conflict in a different fashion than what Granddaddy Cain does. Pa had taken a gun with him and Dave to school and took it up with Prof. Herbert. No bloodshed happened, but Prof. Herbert showed Pa how he had germs on his teeth. Pa eventually understood about that new ways school educated the students. Pa's demeanor is most likely to be a hard-headed, and loyal about family.
Pa and Cain have everything listed above in common. They are loyal to their families, farmers, self-reliant, and they take actions with their own hands. Both with children of their own, and maybe grandchildren in the Sexton's family case. Although they end their conflicts with different solutions they are amazingly similar. Through these examples and evidential findings I believe they are quite similar in the utmost ways.
