Log Entry #5

Nothing happens in these pages, but here are the important parts of these ten pages, that I could find. To sum this up, Montag strongly dislikes, with a fiery passion, Mildred. HE even says in the book if she died, he wouldn't cry. Of course, Mildred sat at the "living" room, a appropriate name for the room, arguing with her "relatives." Montag asked what they were arguing about and Mildred doesn't even know she just answers that they are a married couple who fight a lot. To settle the argument a sudden cacophony stop the hectic yelling, but once the music was over they started to argue again.

Now, this is the importance of this section. While in bed Montag decides to talk about Clarisse with Mildred. She claims she knows who he is talking about and says they moved. Montag asks if she is sure and , I quote, Mildred answers back, "Whole family moved out somewhere. But she's gone for good. I think she's dead...No. The same girl. McClellan. McClellan. Run over by a car. Four days ago." Montag asks why she hadn't told him sooner and Mildred simply shrugs it off saying, "I forgot." Clarisse, dead, run over by a car. The one who ruined his morning routine...is dead!
After this, Montag notices something outside and assumes it's the Hound. He wakes up claiming to be sick and Mildred doesn't believe him. She asks him why and he tells him about the old woman. She says that its a good thing the rug's washable. Montag then calls up work to tell them he wouldn't attend but changes his mind and says he will be there later. But Captain Beatty appears at his doorstep and talks to Montag and suggests to take the day off since every fireman has to learn about this, deal with the sickness.
Montag, as I researched, is a possible reference to Guy Fawkes. Who attempts to change the current state of affairs through his nonconformist action. As well as Montag's name meaning, in German, "Monday" it gives us a possible symbol of Guy’s mental position – Monday means a new start, maybe by the end of the story he will come to a new conclusion about life then he had.
Clarisse means "clear", which is obvious that Clarisse states exactly what's on her mind.
