Fahrenheit 451
Log Entry #7
Montag just ended his conversation with Beatty, Beatty left and Montag stated he wanted to kill things. Mildred didn't react but told him to take the beetle, the car, and drive as fast as 95 mph. Mildred even states it's fun hitting dogs and rabbits when driving as well. Is this how so enjoys her life? I believe that is the first sign of a serial killer, or maybe Mildred's character is just psychotic. But Montag refuses "this time" and decides he wants to hold on to this feeling and decides he should even start reading books! "Happiness is important. Fun is everything. Ad yet I kept sitting there saying to myself, I'm not happy, I'm not happy." We also find out, as I knew it, Montag kept a ton of books behind the grille in the air conditioner vent. Mildred shocked and scared; she grabbed a book and tried to put it on fire but Montag held her back. He calms her with this: "If you love me at all you'll put up with this, twenty0four, forty-eight hours, that's all I ask, then it'll be over, I promise." I promise seems like a foreshadow to me, reason are that everything you promise something it's either broken or never for-filled. It, to me, basically screams that Mildred won't keep that promise and will eventually stab him in the back with it. And other foreshadow, "We'll start over again, at the beginning." This probably hints at the fact Montag will restart his life and the way he looks at the world.
