Log Entry #8
"My favorite subject is myself." Mildred agrees that she under stands this quote but Montag can't help but to thing of Clarisse. Clarisse's favorite subject wasn't herself it was everyone else and Montag. The first person he's liked in so many years and the first person who actually looked at him as if he counted. Mildred started to get frustrated kicking books and yelling, "Books aren't people." She goes on about how the other firemen will come and burn the house and the 'family'. We larn that the U.S. has started two atomic ars since 1990 winning them both. That they are so rich and the rest of the world's so poor and thet just don't care; that the rumors are that world is starving. Rumors? Starving? The fact that this is a rumor means that even the people aren't even sure...that they are so un-informed by the government this is a rumor. "I don't talk things, sir, I talk the meaning of things. I sit here and know I'm alive." Montag remembers this from the past, that a person called by, Professor Faber reads books. Montag digs up this information and calls Faber, but Faber refuses to be of any help and says he has no clue. Scared...Faber is scared that the government or firemen are listening in on the conversation(?). "Does the White Clown love you? Does your 'family' love you, love you very much, love you with al their heart and soul, Millie?" Mildred asks what kind of silly question that is and tells Montag that if he sees that dog outside, give him a kick for her. Animal Abuse?
THE WHITE CLOWN- A television show? A character from a show?
DENHAM'S DENTIFRICE- A jingle for Denham’s Dentifrice toothpaste distracts him, and finally he gets up in front of all the passengers and screams at the radio to shut up, waving his book around. The astonished passengers start to call a guard, but Montag gets off at the next stop.
